The Process:
After scheduling your free remodeling consultation, ROOTER GUYS will come to your home to talk with you about your bathroom remodeling project, your needs, ideas and goals. During your in-home consultation, we will take all measurements and start sketching and discussing possible design ideas with you. We will then present material options for building the new bathroom of your dreams. After choosing the desired materials and hardware for your new bathroom, a firm quote will be provided for the complete remodel. We will then collect a deposit for the job and place the order for all of the project's materials and discuss the available dates to start your remodel project.
The Timeline:
In order that we stay on time, projects will not be started until all materials have been ordered, and we have their due dates.
The first day of construction is Demolition Day. Your bathroom will be completely stripped and prepared for the construction to begin. All debris will be cleaned up and hauled away on this day. Over the course of approximately 2 weeks, we will turn your tired bathroom into the bathroom of your dreams. Our daily schedule will vary depending on what part of the project we will be working on and how that fits into your schedule.
Some tips for a potential Bathroom Remodel Project:
Ventilation:
Good ventilation protects both your home and your health. Ventilation is very important in bathrooms as it removes unwanted moisture. Good ventilation helps stop the growth of mold & mildew, which can cause allergic reactions and aggravate lung diseases. During remodel, be sure to check that your bathroom fan is functioning properly and vented properly, meaning that that it is exhausting a sufficient amount of air. And the air is exhausted directly to the outside, not just shoved into the atic or some other space in the house. If you don't have a bathroom fan, or if your current fan is not working, you should have one installed. In cooler climates, bathroom fans can be used to help provide ventilation for your whole house.
Despite good ventilation, moisture-laden air from the bathroom can still make its way into the walls and ceiling cavities. A bathroom remodel project should present an opportunity to improve air sealing. Plumbing, electrical and ventilation penetrations should be sealed where they are accessible in any walls that are opened. Depending on how they were constructed, soffits can be hard to air seal. However, if you are replacing all bathroom fixtures and cabinets, you should be able to access space that would otherwise be difficult to reach.
Water Management:
It should be obvious that all efforts should be made to avoid problems with water in the bathroom. All leaks should be fixed, all condensation should be addressed at this time. The walls and floors should be constructed to effectively keep water from penetrating walls and flooring.
Flooring:
Flooring must not only have a good degree of protection from water damage, it should also prevent water that does get on the floor from penetrating to the sub floor and space below.
Do not install carpet near water sources or areas where there are constant moisture problems such as around sinks, tubs, showers and toilets. To reduce the potential for microbial growth in the joints of hard surfaces or porous flooring installed near water sources, be sure to seal the entire surface.
Windows:
Bathroom remodeling may present a perfect opportunity to replace old windows with new energy star windows. While costs do not always justify the change from purely an energy savings perspective, there may be other benefits of new windows. More efficient windows may be less prone to condensation and related mold growth.
